Meriton Becomes Australia’s Number One Home Builder As People Swap Backyards For Balconies
24 September 2014
Meriton has taken out top spot on the Housing Institute of Australia’s annual HIA-COLORBONDÎÂ steel …Housing 100 Report’, reflecting the growing trend towards apartment living and a nationwide apartment boom.
Meriton commenced nearly 8000 dwellings in the year 2013-2014, trumping Perth’s traditional home builder BGC, who placed second with 5,004 housing starts.
We are very proud to become the premier home builder in Australia,ù said Meriton managing director Harry Triguboff.
This became possible because of the hard work and dedication of all our staff. We believe that building apartments is very important for the country, the state, local councils, subcontractors, employees and the purchasers. The main thing is – we all did well.ù
Meriton has been New South Wales’s largest apartment developer for several years and last year become Australia’s number one apartment developer.
This time, Meriton has topped the nation in all home categories, reflecting continued construction industry health despite a 15 per cent drop in the number of high-density housing approvals since the start of the year.*
Meriton’s status as Australia’s largest home builder is a significant achievement for a company that operates only on Australia’s east coast – it has constructed more than 60,000 dwellings in Sydney, Brisbane and the Gold Coast over the past 50 years.
Currently, Meriton has more than 15,000 apartments in its construction pipeline across 25 sites. It spent $431 million on six site acquisitions in 2014 to date, purchasing in covetable inner-city areas with plans to build both residential and serviced apartment accommodation (Meriton Serviced Apartments currently operates in 13 locations, with five more underway).
As builder, developer and owner, Meriton is uniquely placed to set the pace for an industry that only continues to show signs of growth.
