Meriton Unveils Impressive New Mascot Central Retail Precinct
29 April 2016
Mascot Central Retail Precinct is a new, outdoor-style urban retail precinct set to become a local shopping hub for the rapidly growing Mascot community.
The 5,000 sqm Meriton retail development will host 17 food and lifestyle specialty retailers including a brand-new Woolworths, Oliver Brown, boutique florist with a café, arguably some of Sydney’s best pork rolls at Destination Roll, and the delicious new Camy’s Charcoal Chicken. Conveniently located just moments from Mascot train station, the lush, landscaped precinct provides the retail necessities for the local community.
“This is by far the most exciting Meriton retail development to date and we believe it will bring a vibrant marketplace atmosphere to this once-industrial area,” says Meriton founder and managing director Harry Triguboff. “It also offers a new standard of residence for the more than 1200 apartments surrounding it, providing residents every possible convenience.”
Labor MP Ron Hoenig, Member for Heffron at Parliament of NSW says it’s a win for the local Mascot community.
“The growing Mascot community will genuinely benefit from this impressive new Mascot Central Retail Precinct. Not only does it offer terrific convenience for residents but it also means around 300 new jobs have been created by the retailers.”
The Mascot Central Retail Precinct is Meriton’s largest retail development to date and the first to include a full line Woolworths supermarket. It marks a new direction for Meriton, with a renewed focus on supporting tenants and bringing in a stronger retailer offering to its developments.
Andrew Mednick, Meriton’s Head of Commercial Property says the design and diversity of retailers was a focus for this flagship Meriton retail development. “We’ve deliberately moved away from the traditional indoor, fluorescent-lit style of centre to create a welcoming, open, landscaped precinct for the retailers, local residents and visitors. Our retailers are excited about being part of it and the reinvigoration of this burgeoning suburb of Sydney.”
The retail precinct’s outdoor-style design took inspiration from the atmospheric laneways of Melbourne and the people-watching piazzas of Italy. Residents of Mascot Central’s ‘The Parque’ and ‘The Strand’ apartments can enjoy the lively energy of the retail precinct below from their balconies.
Designed by PTW Architects, Mascot Central offers more than 800 residential apartments across eight buildings which range in height up to 14 levels, alongside 386 serviced apartments, two leisure and aquatic centres for residents, lush green parklands and childcare facilities. Mascot Central’s second stage release, ‘The Strand’, has sold 300 units prior to completion with owners moving in during April 2016. Final stage ‘The Parque’ apartments have now been released and 50 per cent sold with strong sales to both local and overseas buyers. The Mascot Central Kent Road site was acquired by Meriton Group for $100 million in March 2013.
Meriton will further reinforce its retail presence in 2016 with the launch of Sundale Retail Precinct in Queensland. Meriton’s Sundale Retail Precinct is set to provide local residents and holidays makers with a much needed retail convenience and food and beverage offering including a mixture of Asian style dining operators, bottle shop, chemist, medical centre and beauty salon.
