PTW wins Pagewood contest

The architectural firm responsible for the Meriton group’s award-winning Mascot Central residential-retail development has come up trumps again, this time at Pagewood.
PTW, one of three architectural firms in the mix has won the design competition for the fourth phase of Meriton’s giant Pagewood Green community.
Its design is for four towers that will be the centrepiece of Pagewood Green, a 10-year project which eventually will have more than 3000 apartments.
Meriton also ran design competitions for Pagewood Green’s first three phases, with the commissions won by the Nettleton Tribe and SJB.
Harry Triguboff, who founded Meriton in the 1960s and is Australia’s largest residential developer, says the competitions will ensure an assortment of fashionable architectural schemes in his biggest project to date.
“We want to create a lifestyle community with a vibe, one where the buildings exhibit design flair, while at the same time complementing each other.
“Meriton is, in fact, changing the face of a suburb and we’re determined to create something of which Pagewood residents will feel proud.
“My perception is that we’re well and truly on the right track and our sales at Pagewood Green show buyers agree.”
More than 200 apartments have sold since Meriton launched Pagewood Green, a five-phase venture late last year.
The 16.5ha Bunnerong Road site, which abuts the Westfield Eastgardens shopping centre and previously was home to a British American Tobacco plant and a Holden facility, was bought for $230 million.
Pagewood Green will have a hectare of parkland, 500sqm of shops, restaurants and cafes, and two childcare centres.
Allium, phase one of Pagewood Green, has four towers which overlook two golf courses and the first residents are expected to move in by year’s end.
PTW’s winning design for phase four involves towers of heights ranging between 13 and 20 storeys and accommodate 468 apartments.
The architects describe the towers as crystalline vertical elements, which feature double height roof features at its crown and portal frames with floor to ceiling glass sit above a five-level podium.
The buildings are arranged to improve view corridors north to the central park and provide sun access to a podium landscaped garden.
An indoor pool and gymnasium will be on level five flooded with natural light from the feature skylights above.
PTW’s design includes north-facing shops at ground level, grand apartment lobbies fronting the 5,000sqm park and a civic plaza creating a gathering point for the neighbourhood.
